As the Crow Flies is a story about Charlie — a queer 13 year old girl who finds herself stranded in a dangerous place: an all-white Christian youth backpacking camp.  It updates Mondays and Fridays.

On average, 1.33 colored pencils are sharpened into oblivion per page.

Melanie Gillman is the cartoonist behind this story.  She holds an MFA in comics from the Center for Cartoon Studies, and currently lives in Denver, CO.  This is her second all-colored-pencil graphic novel. Her first, a lesbian romance about swing-dancing and vampirism, can be read in its entirety at smbitten.com.

Questions, comments, and lavish gifts can be directed to her at melanie.k.gillman at gmail dot com.

Melanie has also has a tumblr, where she’s been known to post coloring recommendations, terrible fishbeasts, and the occasional mythological lesbian screenprint series.
